The 2016 RIO Olympic silver medalist, Malaysian mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying are confirmed absence at BCA Indonesia Open (BIO) Superseries Premier 2017 which will be held on June 12–18, 2017 in Jakarta.

The reason is Goh is still undergoing a recovery phase after shoulder surgery in Halle, Germany, last month. Even so, Chan will remain performing in the upcoming BIO 2017 with his junior partner, Peck Yen Wei (21).

"With the Liu Ying’s injury, I am frustrated because I am not able to perform optimally as usual. However, I have the sympathy for what he has been through,” said Chan Peng as quoted from The Star.

"I don’t want to put pressure on him which will make him go back to the game too early. I have to stay positive. I am comfortable with my new junior partner,” he added.

After Indonesia Open, Chan will be partnered with Cheah Yee See at Australia Open on June 20 – 25, 2017. And at the 2017 Sea Games, Chan/Cheah are planning to perform together with another Malaysian pair, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Lai Jemie.

"As senior, my task is to assist them to be world class players. That’s what I am aiming at right now. If they can be as good as Liu Ying, that’s a bonus," he said.

"Either Yen Wei or Yee See is a talented player. They have unique styles and it’s only a matter of time for me to get along well with them in the court,” he said.

On the other hand, Malaysian mixed doubles coach, Chin Eei Hui, said that there is possibility that Chan and Cheah Yee See can be permanently partnered.

"Yee See has good physical endurance which will complete Chan Peng Soon. We only need to improve his technical skills,” said Chin.
