The mission is to be the most successful player at the premier level tournament by becoming the champion for the seventh times. Previously, Lee Chong Wei, became the Indonesian Open champions in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2016.
Lee Chong Wei is the only non-Indonesian player who won more than one title. If he is able to become a champion at Indonesia Open 2017, a player who is also known as Dato will surpass Indonesia's Ardy B. Wiranata and Taufik Hidayat who also had won the tournament for sixth times.
The coach, Hendrawan, is optimistic that he can set a new record at Indonesia Open.
"He wants to win for the seventh times and surpasses Ardy and Taufik," said Hendrawan, as quoted from The Star, Thursday (8/6).
However, Hendrawan admitted what his player is about to go through is not easy. He predicts the drawing Lee got is tough since from the beginning.
In the first round, Chong Wei will take on Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto, and if he makes it through, he will have the chance to face another Indonesian, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei is recorded that he is leading head to head from the two future opponents.
Moreover, Hendrawan said to Lee Chong Wei that he should adapt with the courts since the Indonesia Open 2017 will be held at Jakarta Convention Center after previously held at Istora Senayan since 1993.
