The senior-junior combination has been listed among the world’s women’s double elites after winning titles in Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2017, French Open Super Series 2017 and India Open 2018 HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500.
Being crowned as a champion in front its home crowd is certainly what Greysia/Apriyani, who currently sits on world’s No. 6 rank, hoped for in this tournament. Greysia/Apriyani came close to make their dream of winning a title in Istora came true when they reached the Final during Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2018 tournament. Unfortunately, the pair was defeated by Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi (Japan) on the final game of the tournament.
Misaki/Ayaka is still one of the most dangerous pair in the women’s doubles event, even Greysia/Apriyani recorded five losses playing against the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic women’s doubles gold medalist.
On contrary, Japan is currently leading the women’s doubles event where they send three pairs to fill the world’s top 5 rank. Misaki/Ayaka, sits on the world’s 5 th position, while Shiho Tanaka/Koharu Yonemoto sits on the 4 th rank. In addition to that, there is the Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota pair who sits comfortably at the world’s second rank.
However, if we were to analyse the map of power, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan (China) has the biggest chance to win this year’s tournament. Chen/Jia definitely wants to defend the BCA Indonesia Open 2017 title that they won in last year’s occasion.
Coming from the other side of the world, Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen (Denmark), the world’s No. 3 women’s doubles pair is ready to be back for Blibli Indonesa Open 2018. After winning All England 2018, Juhl/Pedersen failed to participate in a number of recent tournaments, including Uber Cup 2018.
Greysia/Apriyani are not the only Indonesian women’s doubles pair to have hopes on this year’s tournament, the Rizki Amelia Pradipta/Della Destiara Haris pair also keen to show their best performance in front of the home crowd to receive maximum outcome out of this tournament. A number of pairs that have been disbanded in the last couple tournaments are now being re-grouped again to play for this tournament namely, Anggia Shitta Awanda/Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani, Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Yulfira Barkah, and Rosyita Eka Putri Sari/Meirisa Cindy Sahputri.
From the first Pelatnas, the two representatives that will play in this year’s tournament are Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Agatha Imanuela and Tania Oktaviani Kusumah/Vania Arianti Sukoco.
