Ginting claimed that he managed to grab the landslide victory after trying to continuously put pressure on the opponent and not giving his opponent many chances.
“On the first game he (Caljouw) was under pressure and made a few unforced errors. So I tried to continuously put pressure on him and not giving him many chances to score. In contrast, on the second game he is well adjusted to the game, the game has gotten tight during the first interval. Fortunately, I went past that and won the game,” as expressed by Ginting after the match.
Prior to Ginting’s win, Tommy Sugiarto have already grabbed his ticket to the second round after beating the Thai player, Khosit Phetpradab. Meanwhile, the other Indonesian men’s singles player, Jonatan Christie failed to secure a place on the second round after he is defeated by the No. 1 seed player from Denmark, Viktor Axelsen.
On the second round, Ginting will see either Kento Momota from Japan, or Kidambi Srikanth from India. At the moment, the two players are still waiting for their turn to play.
“If I were to evaluate my performance, I’d choose to keep my focus better, and if I see Momota on tomorrow’s match I don’t think there will be much to be evaluated. Actually during the recent Malaysia Open, I lost to him through a rubber game,” Ginting adds.
