As Blibli Indonesia Open 2018 is entering the third day of the tournament, many Indonesian athletes have been confirmed to secure their place in the quarter final. one of these athletes is Marcus/Kevin, the pair whose nickname is “The Minions”. The Minions are heading to the quarter final after defeating the Malaysian pair, Yew Sin Ong/Yi Teo Ee with the score of 21-18, 21-12.

After attending the press conference, the Minions attended the meet and greet event at the Djarum Foundation booth. Specifically, the booth is located on the northern part of Istora, near by the stage. There, the Minions greet and talk to their fans that come from all over the place in Indonesia although they attended the event for approximately 15 minutes. The event made their fans happy, as they finally able to see the Minions with their own eye.

“This is my first time seeing Kevin with my own eyes, I usually see him through Youtube and TV” as expressed by Margareth who came all the way from Cijantung to attend the event.

Margareth has the chance to ask her question to the Minions during her first experience meeting them with her own eyes. Margareth asked “I have a question, I notice that Kevin usually wear glasses, is that a prescription glasses or just regular glasses? If that is a prescription glasses, why don’t you wear glasses on the match, like that player from Taipei ?,” while laughing. “Yes, it is a prescription glasses, during practice or matches I wear contact lenses, I have a -3 eye power,” Kevin responded.

The Minions are known to conduct psychological warfare against their opponent in the hope of reducing the morale of the opponents in order for them to go past their opponents easily and disappoint them.

“That depends on how the opponents treat us, if the opponents treat us badly then, we will make it worse for them,” Said Kevin.

They claimed that they do not conduct the psy-war with any opponents. More often than not, the opponents are the ones who started the psy-war, in that case, Kevin/Marcus will treat them worse than the way the opponent treat Kevin/Marcus.

The minions greet and express their gratitude to the public, especially to those who came to Istora to support them. This is because their support is an important factor that helps the players to win games.

“I would like to thank everyone, you guys are our motivation and you always support Indonesia through ups and downs, and don’t forget to come support us again tomorrow, many thanks to all of you,” as expressed by Gideon in front of the fans.

The Meet and Greet event is held to help all badminton fans, especially the Minion’s fans to show their support to their favorite players and hopefully this will motivate the player more in the future. Furterhmore, this event is also hoped to help the fans to satisfy their curiosity of seeing their favorite players with their own eyes.
