Akane took control of the match during the second set. The World’s No. 4 rank even managed to anticipate every movement and attack that was shown by Sindhu. “Sindhu has a higher posture compared to me, and her smashes are strong. So, throughout the match, i tried as much as possible to anticipate her attacks,” she said.
Akane’s defeat from Sindhu during the last meeting between the two players apparently have motivated Akane more to play better. Furthermore, Akane is also in a mission to collect points for the coming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“In the last meeting, I was beaten by Sindhu. That is what motivates me to win the match today. Moreover I also really want to play in the 2020 Olympics. Although the competition is fierce, I must keep on trying. What’s important for me for now is that I certainly feel very happy with the title today,” said Akane.
On the other hand, Pusarla V. Sindhu claims that she is forced to accept the runner-up status that she receives in Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000. This is because she thinks that she has done her best and played all-out in every match during the tournament.
“Today, the match was very good. I feel that I have played very well and so does Akane. I made many unforced errors whenever I was leading in today’s final match. Although I feel disappointed because I cannot be the champion, but this has been an amazing experience for me,” said Sindhu after the match.
“Certainly the competition among the Women’s Singles players is now different in comparison to the situation few years ago. I think that, now, the players are already in the same level, especially those who are in the World’s top 10 ranking, the competition is tight and all players have equal abilities,” she said
This result means that, Japan brings home two titles from Indonesia Open 2019, contributed by Akane Yamaguchi from the Women’s Singles event and Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota from the Women’s Doubles Event.
