The world’s No. 1 Men’s Doubles player from Indonesia, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo claimed it would not be an easy task to defend the title for the upcoming Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000, which will be held in July 2019. This year, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon is still Indonesia’s best hope for title in the tournament that will reward the winner to a total prize of USD 1.250.000.

“Defending the title is not an easy task, because there are pressures too. There is no significant difference from last year to this year, the power among the players are equally shared, each player has an equal chance,” said Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

Nevertheless, Kevin hopes that he can show his best performance to defend the title for this year’s Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000. “My personal target is to defend the title, but I don’t want to jump into the conclusion, I will have to go through the tournament step-by-step and do my best,” Kevin said during Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 press conference at Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Wednesday (26/6).

“Indonesia Open will always be my favorite tournament. There is a different ambience, different feels to it. Lots of support, and often we can’t hear our own shot,” he added.

During the one month long preparation, Kevin/Marcus was focused on training its own weaknesses. Kevin considered that the long break is not an issue for them. The last time kevin/Marcus played was on May during Sudirman Cup 2019. “The long break shouldn’t be an issue for us. We have experienced a longer break, where we didn’t compete anywhere for months and it was not an issue for us,” he said.

Last year, The Minions successfully claimed the Blibli Indonesia Open 2018 title after beating the Japanese pair, Takuto Inouse/Yuki Kaneko, by 21-13 and 21-16. This year, both pairs will see each other again on the first round of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000.
