“This event will become a challenge, a try-out and a decider for 2020 Olympics. Through this event we can see which players that can be considered for the Olympics, we hope that our athletes can get the best result,” said Wiranto on his speech during Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000 press conference at Ritz-Carlton hotel on Wednesday (26/6).
“In terms of organizing the event, Indonesia has always been known as a good host. Indonesia always received a good feedback and praise, such as during Asian Games. Likewise, Indonesia Open has also received praises, it’s very well-organized, foreign players are always happy playing in Indonesia because the fans are very enthusiastic and fair, applause to those who play well, not only to Indonesian players,” He added.
On the other hand, Susy Susanti, the head of player & performance development of PP PBSI, claimed that the Indonesian players have served numerous training programs before the start of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000. The long interval between the start of this tournament and the recent Australian Open 2019 provides the world-class players more time to prepare for the competition.
“The preparation is adequate, we have one month for preparation. Athletes’ physical condition is improving; we hope that in the coming BIO, these athletes can play all out, since this is one of our main targets, besides of generating significant point for the ranking, BIO can also be considered for the Olympics point calculation,” Susy Susanti said.
Susy also added that Indonesia is targeting to a minimum of one title, and the biggest chance comes from the Men’s Doubles event through the world’s No.1 Men’s Doubles pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon. Susy also hoped that Indonesia can replicate last year’s achievement, where Indonesia claimed two titles from Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and the Mixed Doubles pair, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir.
This year, Indonesia relies on three key events to claim titles, namely Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles event. On top of that, Susy also hopes that the Women’s Doubles and Women’s Singles event can shock the public and come out with a better result than last year’s result.
