“For now, our most realistic target is to reach the semi-final; maybe three to four years ago our target was to be the champion. But now, the opponents are getting better and are younger than us, so we are focused on enjoying ourselves during matches first only then we can show our best,” said Hendra Setiawan.
“Our current target is at least to make it to the semi-final. Actually we just want to focus on making it round-by-round, we don’t want to think too far ahead,” Mohammad Ahsan added.
Hendra/Ahsan, the fourth seeded pair for Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000, will face the English pair, Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge on the first round. This will be the fourth time both pairs play each other. The Daddies has a good record when facing Ellis/Langridge, where the Indonesian pair managed to win the match three times during the previous occasions.
Nonetheless, Ahsan claimed that both Hendra and he have to be aware of the English pair. This is because, recently Ellis/Langridge have just won the European Games 2019 title. “They are good players and we don’t want to let our guard off, moreover they have just won title in the Europe and are currently feeling very confident. Whoever we will play, we have to prepare to steal the early game. English players are known to delay plays, buying times, so we have to be more patient,” said Ahsan.
On the other hand, Hendra/Ahsan is planning to compete in three consecutive tournaments this July. After Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000, The Daddies will depart to Tokyo right away to take part in Japan Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 750 and then they will continue their journey to Bangkok for Thailand Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 500.
“Tournaments are tight; we have to maintain our physical condition and energy. We don’t know how it will be on the field, but we are already listed for three tournaments and if possible we want to get positive results. Speaking about special treatment, I think I will have to maintain my fitness condition and eat healthy,” He said
