Jakarta | Jonatan Christie becomes the only player to represent Indonesian Men’s Singles team to make it to the quarter-final of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000. The ticket to the Round of 8 was secured by Jonatan through a two-set match of 22-20 and 21-13 over the Danish player, Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus that was held in Istora Senayan, Jakarta on Thursday (18/7).

Jonatan claims that he did not expect that he can beat Vittinghus in two sets. “Today’s result is a bit unexpected. The way I see it is that he seemed to be playing under the pressure because he made a few unforced errors, just like me,” said Jonatan Christie after the match.

Managed to secure the victory in the first set, Jonatan claims that the victory helped to boost his confident in the second round. “I played more relaxed and calmed in the second set. Hans tried to put pressure on me, but many times that causes him to lose points,” he said.

Despite getting the win, the World’s No. 7 Men’s Singles player still take note of a few things that he thinks should be evaluated to help him play better in the next round. “As a note for the future, if I have lead the set don’t think to kill the game quickly, because it can be a boomerang for me. It’s like I kept on losing points and was not able to be patient. That has to be avoided,” said Jonatan.

In the quarter-final of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist will see the Taiwanese Men’s Singles player, Chou Tien Chen, for the 8 th time in his career. Based on the last seven games record between them, Jonatan still leads the head-to-head score with 6 win over 1 loss.

“Certainly tomorrow’s match would not be easy. Maybe I have to be ready as a host player and hopefully the opponent will be burdened by this. And I hope that I will get the full support from the Indonesian supports again for tomorrow,” he added.

“What matters in the coming game is the fact that whoever is more ready than the other will be the winner. On top of that, whoever can read the game better will define the outcome during critical moments of the coming match,” he said.
