Jakarta | The first seeded Men’s Doubles pair from Indonesia, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon was forced to play Rubber game when they face the Japanese pair, Takuto Inoue/Yuki Kaneko in the first match of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000. Through a match that lasted for 56 Minutes, Kevin/Marcus finally secured a victory over Inoue/Kaneko with the score of 20-22, 21-16 and 21-14.

The World’s No. 1 pair claims that they were a bit surprised with the unusual state of the shuttlecock and the wind in court. “The opponents performed very well, it was not easy to steal points from them, and they were strong. We were also surprised by the condition of the court and the shuttlecock,” said Kevin Sanjaya Sukomuljo.

“But the supporters play a big role for us today. They supported us positively, so we were triggered to be more passionate, confident and played with all our hearts out,” he added.

On the other hand, similar comment was stated by Marcus Fernaldi Gideon which claimed that the condition in court was a bit different than usual. “Since the beginning, the wind in court was very strong and this causes the shuttlecock to shake. Thus, if we hit the shuttlecock strongly, it doesn’t feel right. On the second and third set, we have found our best plays,” said Marcus after the match.

In the second round, Kevin/Marcus will play against the Men’s Doubles pair from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty. The record between these pairs put The Minions ahead with the score of 5-0.

“They are good players, we have seen each other before and we all know how each player will play. They must have studied our play as well. But, here, the pressure is on us, so we have to be mentallyprepared,” he said.

In the first day of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000, Indonesia managed to send six representatives to the second round. Other than Kevin/Marcus, there are Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah/Nadya Melati, Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu, Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who are through to the second round.
