Although the record between the two pairs stands at 5-0 for Zheng/Huang, Zheng claims that he still want to face Praveen/Melati. The last time the two pairs face each other happened during the Round of 16 of the Singapore Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 500. On that occasion, Zheng/Huang won the match with the score of 21-16 and 21-13.
“We consider all the opponents are a tough opponent. Actually we are hoping to see Praveen/Melati, probably we will face them in the Quarter-final,” Zheng Siwei said.
“We have never won Indonesia Open title, so we really want to win it in this tournament. All opponents are tough, because every countries have good players, what matters is to prepare myself well and the most important thing is not the result, but rather the process,” He added.
On the other hand, Praveen have also ever claimed that he hopes to be able to face Zheng/Huang again and gets his revenge. “I really am curious; even I often discuss this with Mely (Melati) and the coach (Richard Mainaky). We were once very close to beat them, and since they are the World’s No. 1 pair, so we are curious,” Praveen said.
“Zheng/Huang is very confident, that’s why they can get points from all kind of shots. They are also very compact and certainly have more experience than us in winning tournaments, that’s why they are very confident. If they play in front of the net, Mely may be able to match the game with Yaqiong, but Mely has to be braver,” He added.
Nonetheless, Praveen/Melati claim that they want to set their focus on the first match. On the first match of Blibli Indonesia Open 2019 BWF World Tour Super 1000, Praveen/Melati will face the German pair, Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Hertrich.
“The European Mixed Doubles pairs are now getting more competitive, so we shall not let our guard off and maintain our focus. But I think I am suitable to play the European style of play,” Praveen said.
