Fought To The Death, Sony Beat Chen Yuekun

Indonesia Open ‐ Created by

The waist injury he got in last March that forced him to quit from participating in the All England, didn't make the the world's fifth seed, Sony Dwi Kuncoro lost his skills.

He was able to overcome China's men's singles, Chen Yuekun with 17-21 21-10 19-21.

Their match this evening was the third after SCG Thailand Open 2012.
Chen lost two of them. Based on the world rank, Chen is far below
Sony, however, his performance today was worth appreciated as he could make Sony nearly lose his hope in the second set after being left behind with 21 - 10.

"The today's match was pretty tough and difficult for me. He played as if he were reluctant to play, however, his smashes were deadly," he described after the match.

Sony often made several mistakes in some sets. In the third set, he was catching up the points. Helped by massive supports from the fans, he was trying to catch up. They both fought for more points before Sony finally ended the game with 19-21.

"I took an initiative to change the way I played. I played freely in the second set but it turned out I was losing. I fought with all I've got to beat him in the third set," the player from Surabaya explained.

He admits that the today's match made him quite tense, however, there are many lessons to learn in order to play against Ajay Jayaram from India in the upcoming round. I haven't played against Ajay. One thing for sure, I must have the
optimism to defeat him. This optimism has to be started in the first game to avoid fatigue by playing three sets," he said. Sony's success means to add more hopes in defending the men's singles' title after Simon decided to withdrew due to injury .Today, we're still waiting. Besides Sony Kuncoro, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and
Alamsyah Yunus, who will go to the next round? Will Taufik join with them?
