They both stunned Indonesia's Henry Jansen Putra Wibowo/Angelica Caroline Mandang with convincing 21-11 21-11.
"I was getting myself accustomed to the court although that wasn't the first time I performed at Senayan. Hopefully the next match is better," said a player who also performs in women's doubles together with naturalized Indonesian, Setyana Mapasa.
Gronya has been in Jakarta for a week together with her Australian countrymen. Gronya even managed to practice in Cipayung for three days, on Wednesday (25/5) until Friday (27/5).
Although short training was conducted in Cipayung, she admitted she gained more knowledge.
"Yesterday, prior to the tournament, I had a decent preparation, especially the team and I had a chance to practice with Indonesian team. I gained more knowledge to improve my skill," she added.
Matthew/Gronya will play mixed doubles qualifying semifinal this evening at 15.30 local time. They will face the winner of a match played by Rian Agung Saputro/Greysia Polii (Indonesia) and Ardiansyah Putra/Devi Tika Permatasari (Indonesia) this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Gronya/Setyana will play in the women's doubles first round on Wednesday (1/6) against Indonesia's Della Surya Augustia/Komala Dewi.
