The national training center (Pelatnas) sent seven men's doubles in the first round of the USD 1,000,000 tournament. Unfortunately, five of them had to quit in the first round, they are Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya, Akbar Bintang Cahyono/Giovani Dicky Oktavan, Mohammad Ahsan/Rian Agung, Calvin Kristanto/Bagas Maulana, and Berry Angriawan/Hardianto.
Meanwhile, Ricky Karandasuwardi/Angga Pratama had to stop in the second round after defeated by Fajar/Rian. The result got a response from the head coach of the Pelatnas men's doubles, Herry I.P.
"The men's doubles is targeted champions, but there were obstacles from the most seeded, Gideon/Kevin as Kevin had a problem with his shoulder. But Fajar/Rian's advance to the semi-final was quite a surprise. They are Gideon/Kevin tandems yet unpredictably reaching the semifinal," said Herry.
Herry said there are many things to improve, especially from Fajar/Rian so that they can perform better in competing in superseries premier level tournaments.
"Fajar / Rian's muscles strengths must be upgraded as their power was decreasing in the third game. This is something that should be improved. Perhaps next year they can show improvement since the muscles will have injury risks if the time is short," Herry said.
"As for the other pairs, especially Angga/Ricky pair. I think they are decreasing, they should not be able to beat their junior way." said Herry.
"I've warned them, but we'll see their achievement in the world championships, how good they can perform," said Herry.
