Simon Santoso and wisnu Yuli Prasetyo advance to the second round after they stunned their respective opponents. Simon overcame Germany's star Marc Zwiebler, while Wisnu stunned his English opponent, Rajiv Ouseph.

The other men's singles players, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Alamsyah Yunus, Tommy Sugiarto, and Dyonisius Hayom Rumbaka must leave the tournament after stunned by their contenders.  Among the four men's singles players who failed to the second round was Tommy Sugiarto who was defeated by Denmark player, Viktor Axelsen.

Tommy who is in the BWF world's fifth rank was favored as the winner regarding the match between him and Viktor, especially he played in front of his own supporters at the stadium which is famous of its rumble in supporting the home team.

The hope for Men's Singles now lies in Simon Santoso and Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo. The fiercer opponents than the ones they previously had defeated have been waiting; Simon will take on Hongkong's Hu Yun, while Wisnu will challenge Kristian Vittinghus from Denmark.
