Nitya/Greysia Sent A Third Seeded Home

An upset happended again in Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series Premier (DIOSSP) 2013. This time, it was made by Indonesia's womes's doubles, Nitya Krisinda Maheswari/Greysia Polii .

The Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold champion held last week succeeded in winning over the third seeded, Christinna Pedersen/Kamilla Rytter Juhl. As a result, they are through to the eighth final, Wednesday evening (12/6).


A fierce battle had been shown since the beginning. The first game was closed with 22 - 20 deuce, which won by Nitya/Greysia. Having left behind 17-21 in the second game, the fans supports helped them to regain their spirit in the third set, Nitya/Greysia finally ended the game with victory with  22-20.

"In the third game, we played well and aggressively. The fans were outstanding, it made us motivated. Though we were left behind, they kept supporting us," Nitya said.

According to Greysia, their victory in Thailand is also a factor that increased self confidence in the match.

"We were more confident after winning the title. We tried to bring back Thailand's winning euphoria here, " Greysia added.

In the eighth final, Nitya/Greysia will be challenged by their compatriots, Gebby Ristiyani/Tiara Rosalia. Gebby/Tiara are also qualified to the next phase after winning easily over India's pair, Aparna Balan/N. Siki Reddy with 21-12 and 21-17.

"Playing against our fellow countrymen doesn't mean easy. They also played well. We've got to stay alert," Greysia continued.

Nitya/Greysia have not set particular target in DIOSSP 2013. To them, giving their best performance is the most important thing.  

"Winning one game at a time, step by step," she added.
