In the first round of qualifying phase, Sony had to struggle by playing rubber set against Sattawat Pongnairat  and emerged as the winner, 17-21, 21-13 dan 21-2.

Losing in the first set due to his slow paced style, Sony took over the second and the third set by giving loads of pressure.

“I was too slow and my opponent took an advantage and won the set. In the second set I tried to play more aggressively and I was already aware of my opponent's weakness," Sony said after the match.

When asked about his set target at BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2015, he stated he doesn't want to put a high standard, instead, he just wants to play each match.

“My target at Indonesia open this year is not too high, one thing for sure I just want to play each of my match  because at this level of tournament, going through the qualifying round itself is not easy," he added.
