Upsets spark Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series Premier (DIOSSP) 2013.

No one has ever predicted that “The Wonder Boy” must end his career with a defeat in the hands of Sai Praneeth B from India with 21-15 12-21 17-21.

This is their first and last encounter due to Taufik's decision that his participation in DIOSSP2013 will be the last performance in Badminton.

“First of all, I'd like to thank to all of them who have made me like I am now. My parents, family, coach, PBSI (Indonesian Badminton Association), press and all badminton lovers around the globe. I'd like to  apologize I can't give the best result tonight and end my career as an athlete in the hands of India," Taufik said after the match. The decision of Ami Gumelar's  husband ends his career in this event gave him mixed feelungs. "My hands, legs and my head are not unease. But I do hope [the public]will not be remembered with the defeat I suffered tonight. Do remember the victories, defeats, all the achievements I have made to be taken as examples for the next generation of badminton atheletes," Taufik stated accompanied by Anton Subowo, a PBSI representative and Mulyo Handoyo, a coach who has been mentor for his 17 year career. Not having talked much about his career as an athlete, Taufik stated that he would focus on Taufik Hidayat Arena (THA) after holidays with his family. He also refuses that becoming a coach would be a possibility. “I can only guide, not train. However, if I am asked to be a member of the board or anything related to badminton, I am ready. Badminton is my life," said the man originated from Bandung.
