“Finally, after 25 years in badminton and 17 years as a professional athlete, today, June 16 2013, it's time for me to retire as a national athlete.

 

I thank to PBSI (Indonesian badminton association) which has been my second home, [and] for the local media and in worldwide who
wrote so many stories about me, victories, defeats, bitter and sweet,
and for the Indonesian badminton fans," Taufik stated in his farewell
speech with with tears.

Today, the moment of history when Taufik Hidayat, an athlete who has
raised Indonesian flag with its anthem "Indonesia Raya" throughout the
world announced his resignation in his last tournament, Djarum

Indonesia Open Super Series Premier (DIOSSP) 2013 di Istora Senayan,
Jakarta.

“The most important thing is for my both parents who have been very
supportive until the day of my retirement, and especially my little
family; my lovely wife and the children who have giving happiness to
my life, who have always been patiently waiting me to come home. This
is very emotional to me," the six time Indonesia Open men's singles
champion.

His big hope for Indonesian badminton is that it can develop and
achieve its glory back. "For my successors in the national team or
clubs, hopefully you are the next generation who bring the glory of
Indonesian badminton," Taufik said ending his valedictory.
