Taufik stated that there would be no more tournaments or leagues for him. After DIOSSP 2013, he will focus on another thing, including managing his "Taufik Hidayat Arena".
With the decision, an arch rival and a best friend, Lee Chong Wei, commented. According to the Malaysian badminton player, he fully supports Taufik's decision. "Taufik is world's badminton icon. I do
hope he can perform well in his last tournament to have his career a good ending." Chong Wei said.
Chong Wei who is now in the first place of Badminton World Federation's men's singles hopes the Taufik Hidayat Arena can create good players just like him and bring the glory of Indonesian badminton back.
"I will never forget Taufik. He is one of the best badminton players in the world," he added.
So, who will be the next Taufik? The 31 year old badminton player from Bandung strictly stated that there has been no Indonesian players who can replace him. In fact, Indonesia is currently having some well known players such as Simon Santoso, Dionysius Hayom Rimbaka, Tommy Sugiarto and Sony Dwi Kuncoro.
"Simon and Sony are in the same level with Lin Dan, they could have done more than they have now. Tommy has a long way to go, while Hayom has talents and skills although his achievements are not satisfying and good enough." Taufik stated.
Just like Chong Wei's expectations, Taufik too hopes the Taufik Hidayat Arena cn create capable badminton athletes. It can't be done instantly, not until the next 5 years. Thank you, Taufik! Taufik!
Who's The Next Taufik?
The announcement of Taufik retirement from badminton has been often heard since last year. Evidently, Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series (DIOSSP) 2013 is his last tournament. So who will be the new Taufik?
