Winning a Local Derby, Jonatan to Face Bonsaak

Jakarta, - The men's singles qualification round of BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2015 started on Tuesday morning (2/6) at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, get two young Indonesian athletes to meet, Jonatan Christie fought against his fellow compatriot Firman Abdul Kholik. The thrilling three game match was won by Jonatan.

In the beginning of the first set, Jonatan seemed conficently superior. He led 14-10 before finally his domination came to an end with Jonatan's victory, 21-16.

In the second set, the match was even tighter. Both PBSI Cipayung athletes gave long rallies until tie 19-19. However, Firman's confident was better than Jonatan's as he stole the second game with equalising 19-21.

The third game was ultimately fiercer as the both players who previously considered to give surprises at  BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2015 were stubbornly fighting to death and had their scores all square 22-22. Jonatan finally stunned Firman with 24-22 in the final set.

“In the second set, the opponent changed his style, I was actually playing right until the last minute changes. Even in the third set, I was losing the momentum to lead because I thought he would play the same as he did in the first set, until he paid his own blunders," Jonatan said after the match.

Jonatan admitted that at this tournament he is carrying a high expectation given by his coach to qualify to the main round. "In this phase, I was expected to go through to the main round," he added.

In the qualifying round final which is also going to be held today, Jonatan will take on Thailand's experience rich Boonsak Ponsana who had managed to secure a ticket to the final of qualification round after stunning Indonesian Andre Marteen.
